Against ALL odds, we are sitting in Bogota right now.
Let me just tell you about our day. The lady who was traveling three hours to Andes to get the new birth certificates had to take a bus instead of a taxi because the taxi wasn´t full. So of course, the bus took longer. Then on top of that it rained all the way up the mountain so instead of getting there at 8am, she got there at 9am. Then when she was trying to get back, the road down the mountain was closed for a bicycle competition! The lawyer called and told us to come on to the passport office anyway. She worked her AMAZING magic and got the director of the office to sign off on the passports just using a FAX of the new birth certificates. The director was gonna be out of the office all afternoon so if we didn´t get all of this done by noon, we would be out of luck. So miraculously, that worked out. Then, we left Medellin at 2:15pm and met the lady to pick up the original birth certificates along the way. We got to the airport at 3:15pm. When I called the airport on Wednesday, they told me that there were 15 flights to Bogota all throughout the day so we weren´t too worried about getting a quick flight. Then when we arrived, they said the next flight was at 7:30pm. We called our lifesaver, Alfonso, and he explained to them how urgent it was that we get on an earlier flight. So they got us on a 5:30 flight. Now remember that our main goal today was trying to get to the embassy doctor here in Bogota so we could go for the visas Friday morning and home Saturday. So when we called Lucia here in Bogota and told her our flight would be at 5:30pm, she said we wouldn´t be able to make it to the embassy doctor. So that basically cancelled out all of the hard work everyone had done that day to get us to Bogota. When we arrived in Bogota, andres picked us up and said, ¨We are going to the doctor now.¨ The doctor was super nice and told us that when Lucia explained the situation to him, he was happy to stay and wait for us. We got out of there at 8:15pm and came to this bed and breakfast type house. The wonderful ladies here immediately sat us down to a hot home cooked meal of roast, vegetables, rice and fresh fruit. We go to the embassy at 8:15am in the morning. We fly out of Bogota at 9:30am on Saturday and arrive in Little Rock at 8:01pm. Get ready Arkansas! The Colombian brothers are on their way.
We give God the credit and the thanks for working out all of these details. He could not have put more wonderful people in our path to help us accomplish his purpose. We continue to be absolutely blown away by the hospitality, kindness, and generosity of the Colombian people.
So, Alfonso, please let Gilma know that YOU GUYS DID IT!!!! We´re going home! We love you all so much.
